Does the Nexus one have MultiTouch on texting keyboard?

From the upgrade that went through last week with the new muti-touch, can the keyboard now do multiple letters at once?

I remember my MyTouch 3G could only handle 1 letter at a time and it was a disaster to text and IM.

Only the iPhone can do multiple letters.

It does not actually process the two letters at once... multitouch is advantageous in a keyboard because if you are typing quickly it will be able to process which finger was pressed first if two occur simultaneously.

For example, a split second when pressing "H" and "i" at the same time but releasing the "H" before the "i"

Multi-touch can certainly improve virtual keyboard accuracy, as it's much more accurate to track the order that keys are released (unpressed), rather than the order that the keys are pressed. Alas, the standard Android virtual keyboard doesn't do this, yet. I would hope other virtual keyboards take advantage of this. Swype is the virtual keyboard to watch at the moment. Google it.

While voice recognition is great, there are certain privacy issues involved with it. Picture someone "sexting" their gf, on a crowded train say...

Virtual Keyboards having no physical feedback (vibrate doesn't count), and being inaccurate, is the main reason I'm only going to buy a phone with a real keyboard. Waiting patiently for the Nexus Two which is rumoured to have a real keyboard.

It needs multi-touch 4 the keyboard because everyones mastered the art of texting and its wasting time waiting 4 the phone 2 register 1 letter at a time before being able to move onto the next one. Thats why! Thats why everyone with an iPhone texts really fast except someone with an Android device that doesnt come with a qwerty keyboard.

Any idea when Swype will be available for Android? (or is it already? did a quick check on their site and did not see anything or on Android Market)

Also, I did not think I could switch from my tactile QWERTY over to an all-touch device for the longest time and the switch to the N1 has been easy. The haptic feedback while typing helps to let you know the keys are being pressed and predictive text is nice. On top of that, the TTS is extremely convenient in some cases when you do not want to type something out... and accurate too!

The last I heard for Swype for Android was "Early 2010".

A lot of other people have said the N1 is easy. My main problem with VKs so far as been accuracy, but the bigger screen on the N1 may be enough to make it work great for me.

TTS? You mean STT in this case?

Right now I'm waiting for the Nexus Two / Nexus One Enterprise edition. Concept art for it (it's essentially an improved Motorola Droid) shows it to have a keyboard.

Yeah. I did not mean to say TTS oops!

And I thought I would hate not having a tactile QWERTY and the accuracy of the N1 VK is good... mostly because of the great screen In landscape it is hard to miss what you want to type and I can hammer out most messages without looking down at my thumbs and just looking at what is being typed (like you can on a computer while typing or on a QWERTY device).

My only minor complaint is that once in a while the space bar will act up. Maybe my finger position gets slightly off and I am missing... but yeah.
