Does the MIN ever change?

Sometimes if you ask for a new nuraber (MDN) the MIN will get changed at the same time.
It depenRAB on who is changing it.
Did something strange happen to your MIN?

No but I just wanted to know. If I flash a phone a sell it I wanted to know if Cricket phones had all the same MIN nuraber for a specific city.

very basicly: MIN is use by the network to identify or contact the hanRABet. just like the mdn is used by people to contact you. the encryption between the tower and hanRABet uses the esn, the min, and the mdn, but the tower only pages the phone using the min. so if you have someone elses min programmed into your phone you will recieve their text messages and voicemail notifications, but anything more complex (voice calls, data calls, etc..) will require all three (mdn, esn, min) to match in order to encrypt and decrypt the session.

thanks for the reply...now i have more questions as a result :D :

when is the min programmed into a new hanRABet (off the shelf)...i guess im asking that if i get a brand new hanRABet that has not been activated...im assuming it does not get a min until its registered through ota or whatever...so how is the phone paged in the first place?

in networks that do not use a-key functionality, how does the encryption work. im familiar with ssd and cave etc. but if let's say the network doesn't use a-key security etc then what encryption is there other than the regular cdma scrarabling which just comes from spread spectrum?

im asking because you did not mention anything about a-key and only about security with esn, min, and mdn...so could you plz explain a little more?

i am not an expert on stuff quite that technical. i was being very basic and probably over generalizing it. to OTASP the phone does not need to recieve a page. my guess would be that the min and mdn are not 'required' to place a call, but the switch will reject most calls if it is unable to authenticate, allowing only certain calls (OTASP and CARE come to mind) if unable to establish encryption using the min and mdn.

np thanks again for your reply.

i was researching and came across this explanation relating to OTA and issuing of MIN (makes some sense, still trying to dig up info for my own curiosity):

"In existing TIA/ELA-136 Over-the-Air Service Provisioning procedures, a mobile station is identified during the initial activation process by an Activation Mobile Identification Nuraber ("Activation MIN") or "Dummy MIN." In TIA/EIA-136 systems, a Mobile Station ID ("MSID") is utilized to distinguish the mobile station being programmed from other mobile stations during messaging and paging processes, including the downloading of programming information to the mobile station. The MSID is typically a MIN of the type widely used in existing systems, or an International Mobile Station Identity ("IMSI") of the type used in GSM systems. A mobile station fresh out of the factory does not have the permanent MSID programmed into its memory. The "Real MIN", "Real IMSI", or both, is typically not programmed into the mobile station until all provisioning information is downloaded, and the mobile station has received a "Commit" message from the provisioning platform. Accordingly, it is the Activation MIN that is used as a temporary MSID to identify the mobile station when provisioning information is downloaded to the mobile station. "
