Does the excess freon drain from a 2005 Jeep Cheroke?

More freon was added to my Jeep and I think my friend added too much. After it was added most of it leaked out because I could smell it. My question is does the excess freon drain or will it cause damage to the compressor? The AC just blows out hot air now. I have a leak and cannot afford to have it repaired right now. I had to do something before me and my child cooked to death in that hot car. I live in Louisiana
