Does The Bible ACTUALLY Say Anything About Tattoos (read details)?

I saw someone quote the following verse in order to dissuade a girl from getting a tattoo. Other people also pointed to this verse:

Leviticus 19:28 - "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD."

The problem is, "cuttings in your flesh for the dead" isn't a tattoo OR even body modification. It was referring to a practice that is still practiced today in some countries where people actually cut their skin to revere the dead. That's FAR different from tattoos.

Why do people think this verse is referring to tattoos?
Rev: Considering that the previous translation said nothing about tattoos, what do you make of the NIV for adding tattoos to the verse?
?????: "It says in Corinthians that you are temple of God... don't tell me that if you saw a temple of the Lord that you would go paint some funky design on it!??"

Actually, some believe that because God is a creator and we're made in God's image, then our desire is to create as well...art and such.
No Chance Period: "I don't think tattoos are wrong. But why did you ignore the "nor print any marks upon you" part?"

Because I just quoted what another person said. I'm surprised that they cut that out of the middle there...thanks for pointing that out...question solved and when it's time you'll get Best Answer :)
