Does the author come first or...?

Say I was writing an essay on a play, would I put who adapted the story first or the original author?

Because every time I go to write it down it doesn't feel right.
e.g. - I have read the play 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelly, adapted by Phillip Pullman.

So does the author come first or the adapter?

As far as I'm aware, you should put the person that adapted it first. Since you are reviewing the play, and not the book. You should, put the original author second. In a case such as this... always consider what you are reviewing first.
