Does Sony replace PS3 controller batteries?

i saw a site that sells the batteries on the cheap. One of those divineo/console sites.

Get that plus the screwdriver set that lets you open all the consoles ftw.
 
Some states have a law that says that batteries of those types MUST be recycled and cannot be disposed of. In order for Sony to sell those controllers in those states they need to provide some way to get the batteries out of the controllers.

So it is possible that Sony doesn't intend for the batteries to be replaced.

The point of this?
Beats me. Maybe they think they can turn a profit if people replace there controllers every couple of years.
