Sadly, in many areas the answer is yes, but only if you disagree with the majority. However, my state has lovely people from all walks of life who are genuine, caring people.....you simply don't talk politics with them and you simply know that they will almost always use racial slurs and stereotypes when not in the company of minorities. After adopting our first child through Child Protective Services, we were shocked with the uproar and outrage his skin color had on our life-long friends. Now, they love him dearly....but he is and will always be the 'exception' to every other black person....and is only decent and 'ok' because he was raised by white parents. Not surprisingly, most of our friends have repeatedly made racist comments in front of our children, and others have stated that 'they aren't THAT black' and 'you won't love them as much as you would a white child that looks and acts more like you'.
