Does pure lemon extract expire?

My mom said that it never goes bad. I have one bottle that is on my self for at least 5 years. Should I bake my cookies with it?

Didn't you know Mother's are always right!?! Anyway, in this case, she is right. Extracts don't expire. The most they do is evaporate over time if not closed tightly.

Enjoy your cookies! I have some extracts (odd ball flavors) in my cupboard for at least 25 years because I bought them when living in NJ and moved back to Ohio in 1984!

No, they're usually in an alcohol base so never go bad.

The answer is yes, but over many many years. It might be a little old, so use more of it to compensate. I bet it lasts up to 10 years if you have kept it in a cool, dark place away from light.

I assume it does some day, but I think it has alcohol to keep preserved. Ive had a bottle of vanilla extract 5 yrs.Keep cap tight,keep in a dark cool place like a cupboard.
