Does our society fail at communication?

Lots of philosophers during the Classical period of communication, such as Plato and Aristotle, believed that the purpose of communication was to find truth and that truth is more important than winning an argument. Cicero, like Aristotle, mistrusted emotional appeals and praised use of logic and trustworthiness in a speaker, and held the idea that a vigorous style of speech meant nothing without logic.

Now, in the present day, it seems that people value emotional appeals (pathos) and appeals to tradition (mythos) more than anything else, which seems to be the opposite direction of truth and logic. Both of our main political parties seem to be fueled by pathos and mythos. What do you think?
