Can you stop organisms reproducing?

What have been the results of social experiments amongst humans and other organisms to stop sexual reproduction from happening?

Nature does always find a way, if you've heard of the Lemming, a smal rodent native to the Arctic. Driven by strong biological urges, they will migrate in large groups when population density becomes too great due to mass reproduction. Lemmings can and do swim and may choose to cross a body of water in search of a new habitat.
