Does my friend deserve compensation from Toyota?

My friend recently ordered a brand new Toyota Aygo from a Toyota garage in Edinburgh. She paid almost £9000 for it but was told as the car is currently very popular and she wanted an automatic transmission she would have to wait 12 weeks for it. She was a bit disappointed having to wait so long but she patiently waited and was given a delivery date of 27th October. She paid for her car insurance and set it up to start on that date. She also took a weeks holiday from work to try out her new car. The garage faxed her the delivery note on the 27th and she was shocked to discover that they had delivered her a manual car and not an automatic. She was very upset as she only holds a licence to drive an automatic transmission. She called the garage who informed her that on the original paperwork it did state that she had asked for an automatic but somehow a manual car had been ordered and the salesman who had originally taken her order had now left the company. She was then told that if she wanted an automatic she would have to wait another twelve weeks to receive it. She is very angry and upset because of all the hassle, and will now have to cancel the car insurance, take more time off work etc. And she still doesn't have a car and has to wait three months to get one. Should Toyota give her compensation or a courtesy car till the new one is delivered? What do you think?
