I don't understand what you mean. That's the way it is in America. When people see you, they do not see your culture. They see your race. America is the most racist country.
 
is silly to me? I asked this and several said given the history of America and how race has been a central theme, race indeed trumps culture...

Although I was born in America -- this concept makes little sense to me...in fact, it appears as only those who have a low IQ would think skin tone is more important than your everyday way of life.

I have the same view you do. I think North America's history has a whole lot to do with it. My parents are also immigrants and I've always seen culture as being more important. I've met those also with immigrants or with immigrant parents that think that race is most important but none of these people were black. I think that is because people who have black immigrant parents have seen first-hand how blacks differ in culture and have experienced it in their own countries, because many people seem to think that all blacks share one culture while white North Americans differ culturally from Europeans.
 
First of all I just want to say I agree completely with the way you think on this! Most people who go on to take anthropology classes, history classes, etc. learn at some point that there are no real differences between races and that race is just a fake concept created to oppress people. And I think I even read somewhere that the more educated someone is, the less likely they are to be racist or think race exists.

But I was born and raised in America, and so were my parents. I think the reason race trumping culture is silly to you, is because you have common sense. A lot of the people in this section are desperate to hold onto their "race" and the history of how their ancestors were treated as an excuse to be racist. It's sad. RACE DOESN'T EXIST!!!
