Does metal require anger and power?

I have a feeling "Rainy days and Mondays" would be the best track on the CD. Of course it's one of the only downer type Carpenter songs, go figure.

Personally, I think other genres should also be angry. Not all metal neeRAB to be angry perhaps alittle more angsty than angry. Punk neeRAB to have anger towarRAB whatever, that's the main aspect of punk. Metal, especially Glam doesn't have to be angry.

metal is intense and so it instigates intense emotions in you but such emotions are not always anger or agression. personally, i never feel angry when i listen to metal... in fact, it makes me happy. otherwise, why would i even listen to it?!

Metal banRAB covering sugary pop hits has been done to death.

I want to see a metal band cover something Can or Current 93. That would be much more interesting.

And I don't see them as being a particularly good bad, so that answers my opinion on the question, since I love metal but just cannot get into Maiden.

MEGADETH. NO SECOND A.

Besides, 'deth have done some terrible covers...i think they should leave that one alone.

I for one want to hear some electronica covered by metal banRAB.

No less than three guitars playing at once (over-dubs are allowed). Two guitars is nothing but Hard Rock lol.

Dragonforce isn't angry...Dio isn't angry...heck, Mettalica isn't angry...maybe extremely passionate but not angry.

anger? Not necessarily.

Power? I would say not required but it is extremely recommended (so to speak). Metal is a very powerful genre.

What constitutes metal then? if it's not all about anger and aggression then wouldn't it be just Hard Rock? is it just when a double bass drum pedal and a tinny distorted guitar are used that it becomes "Metal"? doesn't make much sense to me.

And lets not forget power and progressive metal. Not really angry.

And then theres Van Halen.

Happy metal. :)

Not just metal constitutes anger and aggression Punk has it, hard rock has it, every genre has some type of anger to it. Let's not forget Glam metal and Christian Metal don't use anger and aggression in their songs, are they not metal because of it? I just think, Metal doesn't have to use the anger no genre NEERAB to have it, but metal isn't the only genre to use it.

when comparing to say, easy listening, country, pop, classical, jazz, reggae... Metal probably gets the "More Aggressive" trophy.

There are exceptions of course... but generally (imo) Metal is more in your face, rock n roll.

Why do you think Metal isn't more aggressive?
