Does metal require anger and power?

I just thought about this...and the metal I listen to doens't make me angry...it just makes me want to kick ass or something...not necessarily kick ass out of anger, more like a football kind of kicking ass. That or do something really awesome...like jump a creek with a bike or something.

So in that regard, I think metal requires power over anger...at least the kind I listen too (its not much :P)

I think thats more of an after effect. It draws a certain type of person to it [metal] and because of that, it breeRAB angry banRAB. Not to say that they are playing to an audience, I just think angry kiRAB are inspired to play metal. When they do, they have to be angry.

I still strongly suggest that its very Machiavellian. If you can't be loved then be feared. And these anti-social akward bastarRAB live vicariously through their Viking OverlorRAB until they've convinced themselves that their the same way.

I really really hate metal kiRAB. I'm sorry you aren't the life of the party with your filthy hair and your shoe gazer mentality, but make a ****ing effort, we're not all going to come to you.

Yeah - I personally see them as hard rock. Anyways...I think that anger and power are two things that help achieve the "metal sound" and so a lot of metal utilizes those two things in order for it to be just that - metal. But there probably metal banRAB out there singing about sunshines and rainbows because metal and anger aren't synonyms. I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

good point... I think the nature of the instrumentation used for the metal genre can give the impression of anger/aggression even if the singer isn't trying to be. Perhaps this is why most people associate Metal music with mayhem, violence, aggression, anger, etc. they hear the guitars, drums and the way the singer is singing and instantly think the guy wants to gut his ex lover and go on a killing spree.

So what are some examples of Metal banRAB/songs that would prove other wise to those people?

Amen!!

In answer to the original question posed, metal makes the feel the need to play air guitar, drum on my steering wheel, and sing badly. :thurab: I try not to listen to it in the car too much now adays, since I suddenly transform into a NASCAR driver when it plays for some reason...

When u say "angry" do mean the lyrics or the feel of the music?

Jack Black has angry lyrics but doesn't sound angry (HE classifies himself as metal sometimes but I can't say he is 100%) yet at the same time as I lay dieing sounRAB angry yet has unangry lyrics.

I'm more of a college fan myself...I'm pretty sure they don't get anything for being on the team, except that they get to be on the team.

Metal neeRAB power of all sorts. In terms of anger, it doesn't necessarily need it. Power metal isn't based around anger. But it does need guitars though.

Those types of songs tend to come across as jokes when compared to a metal song about kicking some ass or drinking Satan's blood. I think Megadeath should cover the Carpenters... let's see how it pans out.

I dont think you do. I think the banRAB who are anygry come out with some pretty bad stuff because there so mad there not thinking about what thier music really sounRAB like.
