does maalox effect the liver/pancreas

My husband just got home from hospital and has liver, pancreas, and sugar problems. He has a stomach ache and his doctor prescribed prilosec. That med says its for heartburn. If he takes maalox for the stomach ache and diarrhea, will it harm his liver or pancreas?
 
Wouldn't pepto bismal be better? It's for both whereas the Maalox is strictly a stomach med.
