Does height or weight affect someones ability to dance ballet?

I'm working on a story about a ballerina and I'm exploring my options on manipulating her height and weight. I'd like my character to be 5' 10", slim but built. Is this realistic? I heard somewhere that the best ballerina's are small and petite. Through common sense, I understand that a ballerina must be strong and muscular, but what is a typical weight for one? Also, what is the typical height? Anything would help and the more detailed, the better. Thank you.

G'day

Professional Ballerinas are wholly lean muscle mass and average or shorter then average. This is because the more space you take up in the air, height wise, the harder it is to control your body's movements when being lifted and it takes a lot of muscle to be able to control your body and support your own weight. If you are a soloist Ballerina you could be as tall or short i would think so long as your were aesthetically pleasing obviously because lets face it you are not just displaying your dance, but your body.

However the male counterpart is almost always taller if not the same height, because it makes lifts easy and the angles of lines look better.

I am not good with estimation but maybe 60-65 kg possibly a bit more depending on the amount of body mass.

hope this helps.

My mum was a ballerina and she was 5ft 5 and weighed about 100 pounds or less. The height and weight is necessary more for couples as the partner must lift her and she needs to be small. Also ballet requires being able to get height when dancing so you need to be light. Not to say that there have not been dancers 5ft 10 but she wont match the male. They need to match in height and weight in order to look right.
