Does God project his image onto humans or do humans project our image onto God?

(And yes I realize if you don't believe in God this question is irrelevant. If this is the case then please don't anwser this question )

I'm not exactly religious, but I did got to Catholic school, so I'll give this a shot. According to theology, man is created in the likeness of God. However, we as humans can't see God, and therefore can't really make that assumption. We represent him as what we think of him, for instance if you look at Medieval religious art work you see god as a kindly bearded giant. I can't say that God did in fact make us in his image, but we depict him as we think of him.

It all depends on how you want to view it. You can say God protects his image onto humans, but remember we protect OUR image to God with the actions we show/ do.

it would obviously be that we project our image on whatever god it is you believe in, since no one has ever seen god yet everyone seems so sure that it is a "he" and that it gives a shit about humans at all.
