Does Ducati Suck?

My dealer suggested sending the radiator to a shop to get braised, but they nixed it.

They also offered to pull a radiator from another bike.

Ducati nixed that as well. To be fair to Ducati, Im assuming that if they allowed this activity, and the radiator goes again, the wouldnt want to 1. be responsible for a braised radiator, or 2. have a batch of bad radiators, and have this simply happen to the customer again.

I dunno. I hate Ducati as the sun shines through my big windows!

So what!... It's your property, you can do what you want with it.. It just comes out of your pocket thats all.. To keep your bases covered, pay a little more by having you dealer do the removal & then install when you bring the rad back to them..

That sounds great in theory, but this is DUCATI's problem. Motohero is not the only one dealing with this DEFECT and not the only one waiting around for Ducati to get off their ass. I'm now on week 3, which is longer than my previous 7 Jap bikes were in the shop COMBINED over the last 20 years. Those of you willing or able to pay thousands of dollars for senseless repairs or parts on top of the 15-30K you spent on your bikes, that's great. I for one am not going to take a dime out of my pocket to cover the manufacturer or support this type of complacency.

I agree and I've said it before you throw down big money you expect big things. Sounds like maybe the Better Business Bureau or some legal action is required. I couldn't imagine any other companies getting away with this kind of behavior.

duclati, I agree with you 100%... But a $35-$65 fix is seperating him from a great ride.. Lemon laws are another eye opening experince for Ducati..

Can't help but wonder what really is stopping the dealer from removing a radiator from another bike and replacing it if it is going to be a matter of weeks?

It gets you on the road, conveys good will, and it then becomes an issue with DNA to replace a faulty radiator. How will DNA really know which bike it came off or when it came off a bike? It could be your bike sitting there or not for all they need to know. Hit your dealer up a bit harder if he has a few bikes on his floor.

!098s South aus....thats what I am wondering....something does not sound right there. Its the dealer that decides what they put on to the plate as warranty work. Ducati has a set amount of money already set up to work with their dealers. If the dealer recommended getting it solder as a quick fix (in reality if done by a good radiator company it will be better than stock, at least in that seam) until the item could be turned in as a warranty item when the new new radiators are availeable, its all in the dealers ball court. Ducati as a company is not going to argue over a leaking radiator whether repaired or not if the bike is legally under warranty and the dealer sayes its warranty with factual written proof from them. The radiator is junk to Ducati either way and its the dealer who is responsible for verifying a warranty issue. I personally think the dealer is not telling the truth....just from what I read here....JMO

If I was wanting to ride that badly I would have it fixed.....my guess is you will be still waiting on the part when the race starts.....hopefully I am wrong with this opinion.

As far as the dealer taking a radiator off a show floor model....he already has your money. The average Ducati dealer is small (or a small part of a larger overall organization) and not going to take a chance on missing a sell or pay his mechanics to do the radiator job three times for one individual customer. Nobody is selling Ducatis as fast as Jap bikes and there is no "standing room only" for interested potential Ducati buyers so every sell is a big deal. They have a floor plan with their own business loans to cover the bikes, they really do not own them....the longer they keep them on the showroom floor or storage, the more money they pay out of their pocket in interest and payments. All about the bottom line....in the world we live in now its usually the customer who gets screwed.

I agree with Gomer.

I think the dealer CAN do more to accomodate you and your purchase from them.

The only reason he is not changing a radiator out is because it limits a sale for him if someone comes along in between the time it takes for him to get you a new radiator. IMO.

DNA will cover the cost of the work to remove yours and replace the new one when the new one arrives, but no one is covering the cost of taking one from a bike on the floor in the interim, and the dealer maybe loses a sale. Thats what it comes down to in my mind.

Well, for a couple of hours extra labour cost, that is pretty cheap minded I reckon, in terms of servicing your clientele. It is these types of situations that really distinguish a good dealer from just any other.

Some will go the extra steps, and some won't because at the end of the day they are in business to turn a profit, and they are not obliged to do so if they choose not to.

This could also be a very limited perspective on my behalf, but having been involved in sales of equipment and machinery for many years, I know there are ways around everything to help a customer if you want to help him.

The squeaky wheel gets oiled first on all occasions.
