Does Dragonball Kai make going back to DBZ difficult?

Well, I kinda like the DBKai opening and ending theme. In spanish I mean.
Though, nothing beast Cha-La--Head-Cha-La.

But, DBKai...I might like it more once (IF EVER) gets dub in the U.S.
 
DBZ Abridged definitely makes going back to DBZ difficult. I'm not sure about Kai, but I guess I'll probably find out later this month when my Dragon Box comes.
 
I haven't tried to follow Dragon Ball Kai yet, which immediately places me in a different position, but at least conceptually speaking I'd be a lot more willing to watch Kai than the original, even with a potentially inferior score, particularly because DBZ was just too long.

As long as it's not otherwise unwatchable, which seems doubtful, the shorter length alone would be enough of a factor in Kai's favor.

I just don't feel it this time around. I hear the difference. And I don't think you need to point out to anyone the dub is terrible.
 
Well, i don't think so. For one, i know a lot of people hate the fillers, but i think that's ridiculous, quite frankly the dbz filler was some of the best filler ever, i enjoyed almost all of it, that is all.

But the music the music in Kai is better (in my opinion), i can see why going back to the old music may be hard.
 
Y'know, I know people hate the filler in Dragon Ball...but in this day and age it's not all that hard to just skip through it, or better...pick up a volume of the comic and read that on the can or something...
 
I don't think they're talking about the filler stories per se, its the filler during the fights or the important parts, such as stretching Goku Vs. Freeza over 30 episodes or whatever it was.
 
That doesn't mean that the new OST is bad just because it doesn't sound like its from the 90's. That kind of logic is terrible.



Ummmm....If anything, you have it backwarRAB. The OSTs from the dub can sound good, and even I have a thing for them, but if anything those are the ones that sound like something out of an average video game. I think that you are being biased here purely out of nostalgia, since in all honesty that music from the dub doesn't fit the tone of the series at all.

Also, as for not liking the new OST, its your opinion, but I completely disagree, personally. It has a tone that has an old-school sort of feel to it, but also works for DBK playing out as a modern series, as well. I can tell that a lot of effort was put into DBK's OST, and I just have to appreciate it for that, especially since it actually at least sounRAB like it fits the tone of the series, IMO.
 
But that doesn't mean is good snice its kinda remaking a series that came out the the late 80's to early 90's.
I was hoping they will keep the OST of the anime. But just updating it a little.
 
Once again, that's just your opinion, but I still personally find that logic you're using to be bad. Just because a series came out back then doesn't mean that this new music doesn't fit it. On the contrary, you just keep saying that it doesn't feel like it fits Dragonball, but the fact that I disagree with this point, and that many other people would probably argue that DBK's OST does fit DB's theme (especially the 2nd half of DB's story, which was originally adapted into DBZ), shows that this point is really a matter of pure opinion, and IMO DBK's OST is not only good, but its VERY good. Even I prefer the original OST by at least a little bit, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the new sountrack that DBK has to offer, and IMO, it does help distinguish it as a very different experience than DBZ.

Its fine if its not a good OST in your opinion, but I still think that you're being kind of biased based on your reasoning, though.
 
Does DBK make going back to DBZ difficult? Not at all.

While I am enjoying Kai, there are a nuraber of things about it that are just bugging the crap out of me. The editing is alright, at times, but there are some things where it's obvious that something was cut or abridged, like when those reporters just suddenly appeared during the Nappa battle. I'm also not a huge fan of the cropping and the dramatic contrasts between the old animation and the redrawn scenes, and I miss the old soundtrack. Some of the new voice acting is very hit or miss as well; I love Nozawa's new take on Gohan, but I'm not a fan of how Bulma sounRAB so bored half the time.

On the other hand, I really like how quickly the story is progressing, the new opening theme, and how we have a "new" Dragon Ball show on TV. The series is introducing a new generation to the series, so I definitely have to give it points for that.

But I think that, ultimately, I'll stick with Z. I'll watch the rest of Kai and continue to enjoy it, but for me, I have too much attachment to the original series, warts and all, to simply abandon it.
 
Ok, if you know that I'm stating my opinion and gave my reasons why , than why is my opinion bothering you?
I don't have to like it since another person does. But same goes if I like it and that person doesn't like as well.
 
I think it depenRAB on the arc. I didn't mind the insane length on Namek or during the Cell Saga, whereas the lengthiness in the Buu Saga was painful.

For all everyone complains about the Freeza Saga, it only went on for 71 episodes (eps 36-107) compared to 96 (eps 195-291) for the Buu Saga.
 
I don't have an irrational hatred for filler. Sometimes it's nice to have a breather, or allow something to breathe. It was good to see Gohan going through some experiences that hardened him, instead of brushing over his training. Going from a sheltered crybaby to a hardened fighter is quite the transformation. Yeah, the filler isn't going to be a game changer but it can create more tension and make the moments feel earned.

Heck, even Piccolo's story in the manga feels abrupt. he goes from wanting to conquer the world to saving the son of his sworn enemy pretty abruptly. In DBZ, you can see him growing fond of Gohan. It's barely there in the manga. As a result, the moment where he saves gohan at the cost of his own life doesn't mean as much.

There's a balance to be struck. Some times there's way too much like in the Buu saga, or there's too little like in the manga.
 
The Buu saga had several arcs though. You make it sound like they were fighting Buu for 96 eps.

Instead there was the Pikkon tournament, the Great Saiyaman episodes, the regular tournament, the fights at Babidi's spaceship, the fat Buu and Gotenks era, the Gohan era, and the final battle.

The Buu saga had better pacing than Namek. There was *always* something happening, not just Goku Vs. Freeza for 30 episodes.
