Does Disney plan on releasing/dubbing Ponyo?

Given how they handled for Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, I don't see why not. There probably isn't much news because it hasn't even hit U.S. theaters yet, but as you can see here they are dubbing it with celebrity talent so Disney's treatment for this film will probably be par for the course.

Ponyo is getting a (most likely limited) theatrical run in North America this summer.

Btw, Sci-Fi Channel's rights over 'Earthsea' expire this year, so we're probably going to get 'Tales from Earthsea' on DVD sometime soon.

Actually, I remeraber reading that Lasseter wants to give it a BIG marketing push, with lots of theatres and such. Which is good - when Howl's Moving Castle came out, I couldn't find a theatre playing it for MILES>

Hopefully it will mean more theaters this time around since the last two releases of Miyazaki flicks have been limited release.

Tales of Earthsea is like the worst $30 I've ever spent on a DVD.
Do yourself a favor and just rent it if you're considering on a purchase.

Lasseter is pretty much the head of Disney animation and a huge Miyazaki fan boy so it does not surprise me that he wants to give Ponyo a wide release. And maybe do it too.

Disney's dubs of Ghibli films have never disappointed me in the past so I don't expect this one to disapoint me ether.

Bad news for anyone who wanted Ponyo in manga form.

You didn't hear? Disney has already asserabled a cast for their dub of Ponyo, one of which, Cloris Leachman, participated in a previous Ghibli dub (she was Dola in Castle in the Sky, and arguably the highlight of that dub alongside Muska's VA). Unfortunately I do not know anything about when they will release it. My guess is that it's going to be sometime in the summer, but I don't have anymore information than you do about that.

This website claims that "Ponyo" will open ultimately in 750 theaters during the "second quarter". Still no release date, though.

If that's true, Disney better get pumping on the promotion. 2nd quarter enRAB in June. A real date would do some good. Then we need some sort of trailer in front of Monsters v. Aliens or Up to get the family audience aware it exists.

If it is dubbed... I hope they do a dub over of that theme song.

I'm sorry, but that little girls voice is really annoying to me
Seems like Japanese posters think the same.

I always took My Neigrabroador Totoro as a film targeted to little kiRAB, but honestly it is enjoyable to more than that.

If it was in theaters around here I would go, but I don't think that will be the case.
