Does dirt bike chain tightness make it go faster?

I race motocross. My chain is looser than it should be so if I tighten it to where it is supposed to be, will i go faster or get better starts?
 
Not necessarily faster, but it should be tightened to the specs. if it's not...well it might just make your bike decrease in general performance.
