My mom said I hated mine at first, but that I got used to it and started liking it. I got one made specifically for infants, and one that is for older babies (both from Fisher Price). I figure one will likely be brave enough for the harder rocking one, and one will prefer the real infant style.
Also I got the ones that are a cradle - swing so they can swing side to side or front and back. They retail for $120 each but I got them for $40 each from Craig's list.
You don't say what swing you got, but it may be a different one will be better for you, or your daughter may just need to get used to it.
