I've heard stories of people using cash in hand as a bargaining tool when purchasing vehicles. Does this really make a difference when say, purchasing a new-higher-end Honda?

If so, how do you use this tool effectively?

No. Saying you'll pay cash for a car does not get you a better price. That tale is as old as "This is a hot color. And this is my last one". Yeah, right. There's at least 6 more of the same color in storage!

We make money on getting you financed. Plain and simple. It's not much. Just a few hundred dollars. But it helps to offset some of our overhead and advertising costs.

So when you say you're paying cash, we'll want more for the car than from someone else who's financing it.

Not really, tho the salesman may let you think it does.
If the cost is $30K, you pay $30K cash. If you finance, the dealership gets $30+K from the bank. Difference = $0.

You know, you could always buy American.
