Does bunny don't really eat the stems of alfalfa hay?

I bought a pack of alfalfa hay in a pet store. I noticed that my bunny only eat the soft leaves of alfalfa hay - they dont eat the stems. Does bunny don't really eat the stems of alfalfa hay?
