does blackberry messenger work on an unlocked phone when you put a different sim card?

My sister is giving me her blackberry bold 9700 soon, she's on O2 and i'm on 3. The phone is unlocked so I was just wondering whether i can use blackberry messenger using my sim card because my sim card has already got internet data plan with it. I haven't tried yet because she hasn't given it to me yet.
 
If it has an INTERNET data plan (e.g. 500 websites a month, or unlimited browsing) then no, but if it has a data plan you can use for anything (e.g. 500MB a month) then check with your provider, usually just ask and they'll pay for you to have it.
 
You should be able to use it, but you need to make sure you have the Blackberry data plan, which is specific because it allows access to the Blackberry Internet Server. The reason why that is important is because Blackberry Messages are actually PIN messages, which travel through that server specifically. You may need to have the PIN and IMEI number updated, as well as service books sent to your device, but it should work. You just need to contact your service provider to get assistance with the PIN and service book information. PIN/IMEI are located under Status in your Settings/Options.
