so the movie was gona be good we all know that it had a solid production going on with a nice build up story from begins.but has ledgers tragic death made it the big publicity money racking hit that it is now or would it have been like this had he still been alive. problem is we will never know:(

begins took 50$mill in its 1st weekend at the BO while darkK takes in around 200$mill so is it reasonable to suggest that that movie was soso good people were really hyped after seeing it on tv,rentals,dvRAB to see TDK.

bale also liked the fact that begins was batmans story wereas everyother batman it was the villians who overshadowed.

so would he be dissapointed that now the joker has infact overpowered everything else in this movie or is this still batys story.

NO SPOILERS PlZ! i havent seen it yet:p

^ This is why typing drunk isn't a good idea ^

1) The Dark Knight would have opened to huge numbers regardless of Ledgers death, it was getting major hype before he died.

2) The Dark Knight made $158 million, not close to $200 million.

3) Bale could have backed out of doing it if he wasn't 100% happy with the script.

4) This is still batmans story, he is the ying to the jokers yang. From what i've read batman is just as important as the joker (obviously)

sorry read on imdb thats its set to be upto $200million by tuesday but still 158mill is a heck of alot more than the $50+million begins made on its first weekend weather a bit of that is from the ledger death is up in the air me thinks.

alot of press attenion to the making of this one.

+the stunt crew member who died
+ledgers rumors of sitting in his hotel pretending/or actingout to be the joker:rolleyes:
+heaths death in january put major advertising out for the movie 6months to release even though it was for the wrong reasons
+now bale being arrested 2 days before the movie opens up.

I think to be honest The Dark Knight would have done good numbers anyway, but because of Heaths death we will never know. And we need to give WB and all those involved with the film the benefit of the doubt, not once has Heath's death been used to promote this film. Its been promoted the way it would have anyway and thats the main thing. Its been done fairly.

Hedgers death has never been used in the advertising. If they wanted to they could have advertised it "HEATH LEDGERS LAST FULL MOVIE, YOU MUST SEE IT", but they didn't.

I'm sure Christian Bale got arrested on purpose to advertise the film

Very true. They've hardly slapped 'Heath Ledger's last completed performance' all over the posters. They've marketed the film the same way as they would have if he had lived, which is the way I think it should be. It's the media that have turned the movie into some sort of morbid event.

And I agree, this movie would have been big anyway. At the end of last year, TDK was topping polls on websites regarding the film people were most looking forward to in 2008.

i agree i think it would have done brill too but now its beating spiderman at the BO which i thought would have been impossible to do for batman simply because hes not as popular with the really young kiRAB

PRESS will be talking about ledgers death more than the film itself.
just the the other day in a sunday irish newspaper they had a 2page spread with a review of the movie and this big pic of heath with small ones of him at the side.

the review focused on heath till near enough the end.

Because his performance as the Joker is meant to be the scene stealer. You really don't seem to have a cohesive point at all. You've bought Spiderman into it, so it leaRAB me to assume you're a Spiderman fanboy who's upset about Batman beating him at the BO.

I didn't realise a film had to be popular with kiRAB to be a success , this film is one of the most grown up comic book films ever, so I hardly think children were its target audience.

I think once the film fully opens this week and the numbers start rolling in then we will see a lot more about this film.Especially in the newspapers. Its broken all kinRAB of recorRAB in America,no doubt the same will happen here. From the people ive spoken to and people i know going to see this,it seems to be a more adult audience going. If thats the case then i think thats great. Because very few films....which attract mature audiences make this kind of money.

o i aint a spidey fanboy i had a thread going yesterday about how spidey took a lot of flack with last years film and how spidey fans will feel about BATMAN beating him at the BO.

im a batman man all the way

well 3 of my mates said to me today after a story on the radio its only doing them numbers cause of that fella who died

there not as into the superheros as me but il feel like a right tit defending it to them i supose ha

Batman Begins came out with its predecessor being Batman & Robin..... people would have been cautious to seeing a new batman movie after the aweful Batman & Robin.

The Dark Knight however follows on from a very successful movie, therefore people are more likely to go and watch it!

I wish people stop comparing the 2 movies opening weekenRAB.

Do you honestly know anyone who's going/gone to see this film because Heath Ledger died? Or the publicity his death gathered. The advertising campaign would have been just the same (except a lot more joker orientated)

All of the stuff about Ledger locking himself in a hotel room for a month getting into The Joker is way over-exaggerated. He was preparing himself for the role! Is an actor not allowed to do that?? Especially when it's something like The Joker, it's not the kind of role anyone could just step up and do, not unless they didn't care if it turned out crap. Remember, Christian Bale also had to prepare to play Batman for ages.

Agreed.

Anyone who goes to see it for those reasons is a morbid, celeb obsessed moron.

Anyone that sees it should:

A - Want to/are excited see a batman film.

B- Have seen batman begins

Was Gladiator successful because Oliver Reed died?

This film was always going to be big. Ledgers death is doubly unfortunate because it also tarnishes the film. Because there are so many strange people and tacky media about that we will never know how it would have stood on its own (my guess is well because of all the build-up and the success of Begins)
