Does anyone remember the old Ewoks and droids cartoons

Yep. ABC Saturday Mornings were the place to catch the Ewoks/Droids hour. You'd think those two shows would score a decent DVD release as opposed to those compilation 'movies' they pieced together a few years back.

Come on, Fox, give us full season releases of these shows, you know they'd sell like hotcakes.

Yeah, I remember The Ewoks/Droids Adventure Hour. The 2 shows premiered as separate programs on ABC in 1985, then were combined as a single hour-long show beginning in March of 1986, running for a single season. The Ewoks got a second season all by itself as All-New Ewoks, running from November 8, 1986 to September 5, 1987.

The shows were just OK, but the theme songs to the original Ewoks and Droids were awesome.

I never got to see the Droid show but I really liked the Ewoks. The show had a very distinct flavor of mystical natural adventures on an unknown world.

It really felt different from everything else.

A bit o' trivia for those who don't know: Stewart Copeland of 'The Police' (and composer for the Insomniac-made 'Spyro' games) wrote and performed the theme song for the Droids cartoon.

I dunno. I remember when Sci-Fi showed 'em -back when they actually showed cartoons other than Gurren Lagann or whatever anime they have on now- on Saturday mornings.

I though Ewoks was the better of the two, to be perfectly honest. Droids was often bordering on the 'mediocre-okay' line, but the formula kinda got boring after a while.

I barely remember them when they were on because in my area they used to air them at 5:30 am and usually I wasn't up yet. I did pick up 2 Ewok vhs tapes from biglots like 15 years ago. I remember being disappointed. Haven't watched them since.

Despite the Star Wars high I was on for much of the '80s, I somehow managed to overlook these two series. I remember the two live-action Ewok movies, but somehow I just never saw or recall even hearing about two animated spin-offs. As such, I've always been curious of both series and have been meaning to rent those compilation DVDs just to see what they were like.

I once read that the animated segment in The Star Wars Holiday Special was intended as a pilot for a series, and I think that would have been cool. The animation may look crude nowadays, but I liked it, and it featured the entire cast of the film, marking Harrison Ford's (so far) only animation voice over role. :)

I remember seeing the Ewok one when I was a kid and liking it. I probably saw both it and the live-action Ewok Adventure movie before I ever saw any of the real Star Wars movies.

As a result, I'm actually something of an Ewok fan to this day. When all those nutty, hardcore Star Wars fans are grumbling about the Ewoks and Return of the Jedi ("Stupid muppet teddy bears. Lucas just wanted to sell more toys . . . grumble, grumble, grumble" :p ), I'm like "Yay, Ewoks!"

Ah yes, I remember these shows well. Fun fact: Paul Dini was a writer on Ewoks. Yes, that's correct, folks...one of the creators of the DCAU wrote for these little merchandise generators.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing a post-Saga SW animated series for once, and Ewoks would be a perfect place to do it. Get Dini and Tartakovsky together on it and show us the Ewoks struggling with the aftermath of the Imperial occupation on their planet, with all sorts of threats created as a result of the explosion of the Death Star in such close proximity to the planet, and a formerly-reclusive Wicket having to adjust to a larger role in his society. Oh, and Anthony Daniels continuing to voice Threepio is nice, but y'know, Mark Hamill has done voiceover work, too...let's get an older Luke to make a guest shot, for pete's sake.

I remembered seeing die-hard Star Wars fans ranting about inconsistency between the cartoons and the series. Never watched it, actually.

Sci-Fi Geeks are going to rant about inconsistancies. It's what they do. Star Trek fans have been debating about whether or not the Filmation cartoon series is canon to the original series for literally decades.

I liked the Ewoks cartoon before I even knew what Star Wars back. I remember I was surprised that the cartoon I used to watch came from RotJ when I watched it for the first time.

I remember seeing droids in video stores but never watched an episode, this was before i liked/had seen SW though. I really hope we get season sets for them.

I watched both series when I was young. I liked the Ewoks and was indifferent about Droids. I bought the releases that came out a few years ago for both of them, but I would like a proper release of the complete series as well. I remember being puzzled as to why is season 1 there was this girl ewok was that was infatuated with a guy ewok, but in season 2, they reversed roles. I bought the Wicket and Logray cartoon action figures MOC a few years ago.
