Does anyone remember Iran pre-1979?

I am so tired of my peer group here in the UK thinking of us Iranians as Arabs, as some littly backwater country. Does anyone here have any idea what Iran was like before the Islamic revolution? Is anyone out there old enough to have dealt with the country during the Shah's time? I'd love to hear the British view of pre-revolution Iran
