Please, someone, put me out of my misery - I'm trying to remember the name of a film, and it's slowly driving me mad. 
It was made in the 1970s (?), was set in America, and was about a young married couple who moved into an old house. There was a blocked up fireplace in one of the rooms, and the elderly handyman was horrified when the woman asked him to unblock it. If I remember correctly, it had been blocked up to imprison some horrible green demons with red eyes (or maybe it was horrible red demons with green eyes?).
I recall one bit of the film - the couple were about to have a big dinner party, and the table was laid with food, ready for the guests, but the evil pixie-things had trashed the place in the few moments while the woman was out of the room. I seem to remember, too, that the creatures attacked the woman with a carving knife while she was having a shower, and I think the denouement was that they dragged her down into their fireplace realm, and she became one of them.
Okay, it wasn't in the same league as "The Exorcist", but it scared the bejasus out of me at the time!
