Does anyone know this 1970's British thriller ?

Hi there all at rabroad, i am trying to track down a film i saw back in the late 70's when i was very young. I can only remember two parts of the film, so here goes - Scene 1- is at the start of the movie where we see a middle aged man in a tracksuit jogging in the park, probably somewhere in london, this is happening while the titles/cast are going up. As the titles finish & the film begins, the man seems to have a heart attack & collapses & dies (i think). Scene 2- is near the end of the film & involves a psychopath being chased, being caught & handcuffed to the bumper of a car, a police car maybe, only to find when they get back to him that he has severed his own hand in order to escape again, If anyone knows anything of this film, would you be most kind as to send a reply, many thanks for your time - 4343digipak.
 
The Oblong Box is the poster on this months 'Midnight Movies' calender, hanging up on my kitchen wall (Scream and Scream again was April). Irrelevant but hey!!!:rolleyes:
 
I think the whole upper torso is a fake and contains the actor's head. It's still impressive though. A decent movie although not often shown these days.
 
Mmmm, c'est possible. Can't see that myself though, it just seems so seemless, cannot see any imperfections in how the arms move or anything, the fact that the chest is a fake one gives weight to your suggestion though. Yep, it is a good little movie, I love all that stuff though.
 
I thought I'd have look for the novel on which "Scream & Scream Again" is based. It's called "The Disorientated Man" by Peter Saxon. The cheapest copy I saw was $250.00! Unbelievable.
I thought "The Medusa Touch" was pricey.:eek:
 
Crikey, is it that good then? I remember seeing The Medusa Touch on telly when I was about 12, love to see it again, they just don't show 'em on the telly anymore. Just seem to show the same films at the moment, what with the several ITV channels etc, swapping the same films between them (Jurrasic Parks). They don't show all these great old flicks anymore.

I bought a great triple DVD set from Morrisons a few month back, The Cars that ate Paris (a total revelation to me, not at all what I expected, a great little film), The Haunting of Hill House (great flick that would have been shown late on BBC2 back in the 80's, with Roddy McDowell and written by Richard Matheson) and The Fall of the House of Usher (Vincent Price at his gothic best), these are sort of films I'd love to see shown on the telly more regularly, or films of that ilk, but that's just me.... sorry I'm gonna stop now:yawn:
 
I bought The Time Travellers from a film fair some years ago on a label which seem to release bootleg titles in the US.

Quality is not too bad - best version I saw was on Sky Movies but that was in the early 90's.

The other Time Travellers film was a 1976 Irwin Allen failed pilot and is included on one of the Region1 Time Tunnel dvd sets
 
I think the books are so expensive because so few copies still exist but geek that I am, I still can't bring myself to pay these ridiculous prices.

That's "The Legend of Hell House" from Matheson's brilliantly creepy book "Hell House".

"The Haunting of Hill House" is by Shirley Jackson and was filmed as the bowel-emptyingly scary "The Haunting".
I was so scared by this movie (on tv) as a teenager that I've never dared to see it again. It seems to be on TCM every week.
 
Sorry, yep, my memory isn't what it used to be! I should know better, I have both on DVD and The Haunting is my favourite Horror movie... ever.
 
Sadly, often the only one can see these films. ;)

Sad but true. I'd love to get all of the films I'd like to see on DVD, I'm a sucker for packaging and poster art (when companies bother to use it, rather than cobbled together sleeve art).
 
This is one of the films that I saw when I was young and never forgot it - totally brilliant, and the 'hand' scene always stuck in my mind. The three horror masters, Price, Cushing and Lee, appear in it too.

Incidentally, the guy who played handcuffed man, Michael Gothard (who sadly died), can also be seen in another great 60's film, 'Up The Junction'.

I'm quite excited by the fact that others here know the film and like it! For years after seeing it, I never even knew the film's name and it wasn't until Google came along that I discovered it properly.
