I can't remember all the details because I read it over ten years ago, but I do remember that it was about a young girl's life during the Korean War. I believe it was in the first person, but I might be wrong. The book tells the story of a girl of around twelve, dealing with her confused feelings about being told to hate the U.S. soldiers even though they were very nice to her and the other children...and dealing with the terror that her own military's men (and the military men from the "other side") put them through such as kidnapping young boys in the night and forcing them to fight. The girl in the story was raped by men in her own country's military, or maybe it was the other side, I'm not sure.

I know there was a young Korean girl on the cover of the book, which was a darkened, stormy landscape. Lightning was flashing across the sky, if I remember correctly, and you could see a bright cloud with a beam of light casting down off in the distance. This is from memory, so my memory could be a little off...but I am almost positive that this was the cover of the book (paperback)

I read the book for an English literature class, and would like to read it again because it made a huge impact on me. The problem is, I think the guy I was dating back then stole the book. Weird, I know...but he was an oddball like that.

Anyway, I do know that it had the words "Heaven" and "Hell" in the title...I had been sure it was "When Heaven and Hell Collide" or something similar, but everything that comes up in Internet searches is something far from the book. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
