will fire me? There have been some issues in the office and my boss knows that I am the office manager and know what is going on but one of my coworkers went to HR and he decided to blame it on me. Because he knows he is in the wrong. So he has threatened me in a way that if I even call HR to clear my name I will still get fired because now there will be another reason that they will know what is going on in the office. I did go to HR and he doesn't know yet but HR seems to not be doing anything about it. I have been waiting for about a week almost two and have not gotten a phone call or nothing. What should I do?

If HR is not following up (assuming it is an HR issues, you really haven't told us), then you need to go over their head. Contact the head of HR and ask for a meeting.

On your main question, though, there are very few laws to protect employees like this. If your boss decides to fire you, and the company allows it, it's legal.

If you are the office manager than you are HR. Nothing seems to make sense about this question.

It depends on what issue went to HR in the first place. If the issue was just a petty thing, they might be ignoring it. Your boss should not be threatening to fire you for talking to HR. That is an offense that he could probably be fired for. But really, before going to HR with an issue, you should be bringing it to your boss, so he can try to work it out. Unless it is a direct problem with your boss, that you can not safely discuss with him.
HR shouldn't be the first step when issues arise.
