I have been suffering since June with acid reflux. I had an EGD almost 2 weeks ago dr put me on Aciphex but didn't say not to take the protonix. I stopped the protonix but then my symptoms got so much worse. So the last 4days I started taking it again. Things are still not so good better but I am to the point I don't want to eat anything. I have been taking the aciphex of a morning and the protonix at bedtime. The egd showed esphogitis and gastritis. He dialated my esphogagas where I had a narrowing. I need to call his office and ask but I was just curious if anyone else has done this. I don't want to hurt my liver or anything but I am misrable.

Call the doctor's office and ask the nurse.

I am sure some medications can be taken together but there may be risks and side effects associated with taking two different PPI's. The doctor may end up upping the dose of one and discontinuing the other altogether.

I took Aciphex for three years and it was very effective in suppressing acid. I took 20 mg daily and the medication started to work within days. I discontinued the Zegerid I had been taking, however, when I started the Aciphex.

Please, call them and check.

Thanks for answering. I will call I keep thinking I will run into him I work in the hospital and usually do but I haven't yet. I just thought it was odd to have me on both. I have finally had two good days without to much reflux so I am wondering if starting back the protonix did the trick or if the acephex finally kicked in. I am a little scared about taking both for very long. I went back and looked at the instruction sheet and it said continue all previous meRAB and add acephex but I just dont think he would want me on both. My insurance has denied the acephex so I am not sure I can even afford to take it if they won't pay for it. The dr did give the $55 off discount card.

Update. They called me with my biopsy results and all was good. I did ask about if I was suppose to take the two together and she said no. I found out that my insurance refuses to cover the acephix at all so I have to stay with the protonix. She did say that if I was having a bad flare up I could take one in the morning and one at night so I guess that is what I will do. I really really hate insurance.
