I have a 2 year old cat that has some GI/intestinal issues, we have been paying for various treatments (medication, enemas, etc) for awhile and my vet now wants to refer him to a specialist for a colonoscopy and he might potentially need surgery to remove part of his intestine. The bills have been pricey so far but we have been managing. However, I am currently on unemployment and my first baby is due in April, my husband has a job but he works for a non-profit homeless shelter and isn't exactly raking in the big bucks! We are both freaked out about the potential bills that a specialist and surgery might involve and are trying to explore options. If he was an old cat we would consider putting him down but he is otherwise healthy and so young with so much life ahead of him that it isn't an option for us to put him down. Not to mention that he is such a part of our family that just the thought of it is heartbreaking for us and I know emotionally we could never go through with that. If anyone has ANY advice on how we can help the situation, I would be so appreciative! Thank you!
