Proficiency Examination? I am planning to take this test. I have been informed that if I pass this test, I get my GED (High school equivalency) and can withdraw from high school even if I haven't finished my credits or gotten my diploma from there. The GED is in place of the diploma. But, I was wondering if anyone knows if this affects you negatively in any way? Like, when UC's are looking if they will accept you, will having a GED in place of a high school diploma hinder my chances of getting in?
I was talking to the counselors at my local community college about it. One said that her daughter took this test and didn't finish high school and it did not affect her in any way. She said her daughter got accepted from UC's right after getting the GED so it wasn't a negative effect at all.
But another counselor said that it would make a difference, but it's hard to say if it will necessarily be a negative effect. I think he said something about how I'd need good grades or something though? I don't really remember if it was exactly on this though, so I'm not sure about this...
The counselor also told me that if I decided later on that I wanted my high school diploma anyway, I can take the classes I would have needed to finish high school at my community college and receive my diploma that way. So this is okay then for sure, right? Since I'll be receiving my high school diploma if I do this.
And also, I'm not planning to go to UC right away. I'm planning to go to community college for two years and then use their transfer program to get into a UC. The one where they are guaranteed admission as long as they meet certain minimum requirements.
Does anyone know anything about the transfer program and if having a GED is not acceptable? I was looking at the list of requirements needed and having a high school diploma and not a GED wasn't mentioned anywhere in there. So I'm guessing either is fine?
Thank you for any answers!
