Ok so i was adopted in 1995 in Staten Island New York and now i live in Vero Beach Florida and i was told that im supposed to get 100% financial aid for college.and i was also told it will only work in New York. I dont know if it is true and everyone i call and try to talk to has no idea. If you do know let me know and also can i have sources...thank you

You get nothing from the government unless you are Native American and have tribal papers. There may be private type scholarships for adoptees, you can try google-ing that.

The only financial aid available is the tax credits adoptive parents get when they adopt.

I would try to find out who the resource worker and or social worker was for your case. They should be able to help you with that info. In Mississippi you would have had to take independent living classes beginning at the age of 14 to get help with college. I just had to attend a financial resource parent class. I am a foster parent. Hope this helps.

It actually looks like New York has a "state voucher" program to assist foster children and older children adopted from foster care with up to $5000 per year of eligible college expenses.

However, it sounds like there are some strict limitations like -- you had to have been in foster care when you were 16 years of age or older, have been in foster care for at least 12 of 36 consecutive months, or been adopted from foster care after your 16th birthday. And you have to apply when you are between 17 and 20 years old.

Unfortunately since you were adopted 14 years ago, I'm guessing that you were either adopted before you were 16 or you're older than 20 right now... but if you want more info, here's the program:https://www.statevoucher.org/state.shtml?state=NY

If you were adopted from an agency they might have a program set up for scholarships but they're most likely not going to cover 100 percent of your college tutition.
