Does anyone here like the 1999 version of Woody Woodpecker?

While I will say it wasn't as good as the older cartoons, I thought it was simply fun and enjoayble a TV series. Plus, they really picked out a great voice actor line up. Jim Cummings, Andrea Martin, Billy West... etc.

I'll be very truthful, despite how classic cartoon fans have disliked this version, I thought it was a better comeback for Woody after his stale, repetative cartoons way back in the 60's - 70's. If anyone saw his last theatrical short "Bye Bye Blackboard", they'll know what I mean.

In short, I liked it. The people who put it together had also worked on Tiny Toons and Ren and Stimpy (You might reconise the detailed animation in some episodes, trying to be faithful to Tex Avery/Alex Lovy's wild style) and it also gave some of the lesser known characters to shine. Knothead and Splinter and Winnie Woodpecker had their own segements in the first series, and Woody's other enemies like Miss Meany, Buzz Buzzard and Dappie Dapper Dooley appeared in a number of episodes. Even Gabby Gator, after a redesign, even appeared in one episode.
Best of all, they returned Woody to his Dick Lundy/Emery Hawkins design, which IMO is MUCH better looking, as well as him and Wally Walrus being voiced by Billy West. Man, that guy rocked!

The main characters I remember from that show were mostly minor characters, which I liked in design and/or character. Ones that come to mind are Doctor Knotts (characterised after Don Knotts), Lefty the Trout and a Rabid Badger with massive teeth! ("Hiya, Buh-dee!")

Wish they'd release more of those episodes on DVD. I can still remember more of this series despite not having watched it for so long. :D

The Badger. I will say I didn't quite like the later ones where they tried to make him a character, but he was just hillarious. Mark Hammil really did a great job in this series, and I can't believe I forgot to mention him. And I give them credit for showing one of the older Chilly Willy segments, "The Legend of Lulliby Point". While the oldest cartoons of Woody were the best, I know about the Tv ones you speak of. And yes, some of them were pretty boring, after all.

Though I wonder what the motive behind making Wally Swedish was...
