Does anyone have any ideas on how to catch an outdoor cat?

Temperatures are dropping below 20 degrees w/snow and freezing rain and I have been trying to get these cats to a warmer place. I have tried to gain their trust by feeding them and creating sort of a "hut" for them outside my house, but they always run away when I get closer. I don't want them to die of cold, but don't know how to catch them....any suggestions will be appreciated.
 
try talking to the cats and make them feel welcome.. thats what my neighbor does.. she has a garage and she takes 3-4 batches of kittens out of the cold every year and gives them away to awesome familes.
maybe try called a humaine society to ask them to catch them for you?
 
Okay first of all, the Fire Department isnt going to help you LOL We dont even come to get cats out of trees anymore in my district. Anyway... a shotgun would work nicely
 
make outdoor nests for them: styrofoam coolers with a 40W lightbulb set to shine inside (make a little box on top and shield it with wire mesh so they don't actually contact it), some air/ventilation holes, and a piece of carpet over the entryway will keep them cozy.

you can also dump piles of hay - once they're covered with snow, the cats will find them nice and toasty.
 
Get a Animal trap that has a sprig loaded door, that will automatically close when the cat enters, put some food inside for bait, and just sit back and wait. This method should not take very long, probably over night!
 
The only answer is time. To tame stray cats, I use food as a way to gain their trust. They won't care about the shelter - they most likely already have their own "shelter" somewhere.

Personally, I make sure to handle their food as much as possible so they have my scent when they eat the food. While they're eating, I sneak in as close as I can without them running away (this takes a few tries). When I finally work my way up to an arm's length, I touch their bottoms or tails - usually this makes them run away. After I do this a few times, they realize I'm not going to hurt them and I will work my way up to petting them a few times while they're eating.

I would just recommend putting out plenty of food for them while you're working up their trust - that gives them plenty of calories to build up body fat and fur to stay warm during the weather.

You could also try making a "cat food trail" - sometimes they're hungry enough to follow the trail and eat the food that is close to you. Make sure to be in their presence when you feed them so they associate YOU with the food and handle it as often as possible so your smell is on it.
 
get a dog house and plug up a heat light but be careful with light or you'll have to call the fire dept.please don't call the fire dept. they don't give a rats a$$ about trapping cats they are to busy helping stupid people that call for stupid stuff as it is
 
I can usually get close to most stray cats and gain their trust. Food is one item that will make them trust you a bit. If I want to get closer to a cat, I usually squat or bend down (so I do not look as big to them) and extend slowly my hand, palm up, for them to smell. Cats usually have to smell everything and you can gain trust this way (I can pet them and after a few times, catch them too, but initially you cannot make too fast movements or they get scared). But since you do not have much time, maybe you can make a shelter for them outside, or make a path in cat food/treats that goes to you garage so they get inside and then you can close the door. Hi my cat lover, Listen i to love cat's they are very loving and cute. Now trying to catch one u must get it to trust u first,leave food for it by your door or where u have seen it. If the cat see's u every day and u feed it and give it water you'll see he or she will get to know u and trust and ill start to follow u, but to try to catch it i don't know. It might just run scard. It kind of hard to catch one out of the cold trust me i tryed
