Does anyone go to film premieres to meet the actors?

I've never gone and specifically lined up for hours to wait behind barriers. I've passed a few when walking through Leicester Square and I've been to a few special Q&A sessions after screenings with the directors/actors/producers.

Most people in the front row got an autograph, I think.

It's also wise to try waiting until they come back out of the cinema. Sometimes an actor will sign a few more autographs quickly before they're driven away in their car. I managed to get Kate Winslet's autograph by hanging on until most of the crowd had given up and left.

I've stood outside for 3 premieres. Two of them were planned (both Harry Potters) and I waited for around 9 hours before the cast arrived. But I got a great spot because of this and front row. I got autographs, kisses on the cheek, and I also got to see so many celebrities like Madonna.

The third one was for the film Elizabeth. It wasn't busy so I walked right up to the front just before the cast arrived, and I got to meet Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa in Pirates) who I love so that was great too.

9 hours? That's a bit much. Is there a lot of people that get there early or is it just a few people.....with their packed lunches and ponchos sitting cross legged at the security railing lol.

Can't stand the damn things, and would never stand outside for hours in any weather just to get a glimpse of an actor or actress.

I used to work in cinemas and used to work premieres, help organise and set them up etc. A complete and utter waste of time, a lot of energy expended for very little.

The other night I was walking home through Leicester Square and the premiere of Valentine's Day was on, and there werer barriers all over the square blocking the way, bloody annoying, had to walk all the way round the back streets.

Freezing cold, and a load of idiots standing there for hours just to get a glimpse of a 'star'.

Pathetic.
