Does anyone find it ironic that John K?...

It's not as though Dreamworks and John Kricfalusi are the only people who have ever done fart jokes. What does Dreamworks have in common with John K. other than the occasional bodily function joke? The art, animation, and writing styles are completely different. Anyway, I don't remember there being a ton of fart jokes in the Shrek films. A few, yes, but not enough for it to be considered an defining characteristic of the franchise.
 
Add to the last couple of posts, Pixar, a company who is often placed above Dreamworks as far as quality goes, has used fart jokes. A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Finding Nemo immediately come to mind in using fart jokes, albeit the former two are in the end credits.
 
True, there all other cartoons that use bathroom humor and I'm not forgetting those either, but as far as I can tell, the same lame "OMG HE FARTED! LOL" humor is espically notable in those two.

On a side note, comparing South Park to the crap of Dreamworks and John K is far from the true.

South Park has intelligent writing, the latter two do not. (Except you know How To Train Your Dragon and maybe the first Shrek.)
 
So basically this thread is a slam against both John K. and Dreamworks?

It's fine if you don't like either one, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but the fact of the matter is that Dreamworks' films and John Kricfalusi's cartoons have very, very little in common, thus negating the initial hypothesis posed at the beginning of the thread.
 
As I recall, one of the main things John K. disliked about Dreamworks was how they design their characters based on whatever celebrity is voicing them. It's like they're more concerned with getting some big name stars for their films than actually making good characters.

Seems like a pretty legitimate point that I have to agree with.
 
I'm sure animated films have been trying to get big names to voice their characters to try and boost ticket sales since before Alice in Wonderland. Sure, it's never been on such a scale (BRILLIANT CAST: WILL FERREL, JIM CARREY, STEVE CARREL, GEORGE LOPEZ, AND ANGELINE JOLIE IN ONE CARTOON FILM YEEEHHH), but this isn't like, a recent trend.

I mean, Robin Williams in Aladdin, Billy Joel in Oliver & Company, can Betty Lou Gerson (voice of Cruella) count as well? I'm not sure.

I don't agree with big names being something that should represent the movie, and don't like how its importance has gotten bigger in many companies' minds, but it's not like a new thing like some people believe (THIS ISN'T DIRECTED AT ANY RECENT COMMENTS).
 
I think John has a good ol case of jealousy. I honestly think he's jealous that HIS name will never be as well known as Richard Williams, Glen Keane, Eric Goldberg, or Andreas Deja.

But what better way to vent some of that jealousy then openly insult his PEER'S work?



That explains why he hates them so much.

I say suck it up and deal with it. Everyone has to take jobs they don't particularly care for. The best guys do the best with what they have and don't get bitter.

What he's essentially telling the students that read and post on his blog is: "It's okay to be jealous and bitter and to openly insult your peer's work on your blog!".

Sorry dude but that type of attitude won't get you a job. No wonder no studio will hire him or take his shows.
 
SomethingAwful.com once did a parody of Cartoon Brew, with "guest commentary" by John K. that really seemed to hit the mark on his rants. It's very LOL, so check it.

I don't see the connection but who cares what John Kricfalusi says? He had his 15 minutes of fame and keeps on trying to cling onto it after the time is up. No offense to any John K fans.
 
Something doesn't seem to add up here.
1.Isn't Speilberg him self the head executive at dreamworks? I thought he pushed for full creative control to the artists on any project he was remotely part of. He has to be exagerating that story a little bit. But, Dreamworks does seem to love their celebrities.
2.Is it me, or is it really fun to bas On John?
3.Are all his fans kiss-ups?

It is indeed ironic how aside from pop-culture the humor in DW movies are like John Ks aswell as how both use blobby characters, though atleast DW characters tend to have more variety in personalities.
