Does anyone feel like Manhattan has turned into a big outdoor mall?

I love it still, and there are non commercial places out there

but basically everything you see is like a chain store of some kind, it saddens me how commercial everything became.
 
I am a native New Yorker and still live in New York and No I do not agree with you. Manhattan ("the City" as us New Yorkers call it) has so much to do and see. There are Broadway Shows, Museums, great restaurants to go to, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Lincoln Center to name a few. Even though we are in a financial crisis there is Wall Street with all its great financial institutions.

There is never a dull moment in the City. So I do not agree with you.
