With the way things are run at the moment Cole is practically the anon. GM except he is shoved down our throats through commentary. He's friends with most of the heels, especially the Miz and Alex Riley... which is something that sort of reminds me of the relationship with Eric Bishoff and Evolution / Chris Jericho back in the day.
If they just made Cole GM and then put JR back on commentary, sure Cole would still be frustrating but we wouldn't have to listen to him for two hours... but then there would be some actually good commentary - anyone else agree?
