Does anybody think this name is too weird?

We were discussing baby names last night, and for a boy we have thought of some names, but for a girl we cant agree on anything but "Fiorenza." However, that was for a middle name...

(It is the Italian version of my middle name, which was also my great-grandmothers name... and it is also the fathers granmothers name.)

Would that name be "weird" for a first name?
My middle name is Florence.
Haha, Fire. I hadnt thought of that one!
No, its from the Italian word "Fiore" which means Flower.

I would say, yes it's too "weird" if you're not in Italy.

I like Fiora though. And it's basically a variation of Fiorenza and Florence, except that it doesn't look as "weird". (you know Italian, so you know 'fiore')

I actually don't think its that bad of a name and you should keep that name going. But if you don't like the name use it as a middle name. Like Elizabeth Fiorenza.

I like it its unusual yes but who wants to be in a class with 25 kids all with the same name I like it and most important is if you like it!

The trend for some years is to 'individualize' a child's name.
I'm old school, you are an individual when you Act Like One.
Truly rare or odd names simply ostracize a child when they are very young and the peer pressures are great.

The worst of this trend is when people 'individualize' a spelling. The end result and reaction from most is to think the child's parents are stupid or did not have a higher education.

In my family, several male generations have a very nice middle name which is not so common, and a 'normal' first name. Each, when young adults, started to use their middle name as their address of choice. It is nice to have a choice.

It is a lovely name, but assign it as a middle name, and choose something less conspicuous as a first name. Something people will neither mispronounce or misspell....

always best regards, petr

I actually have always loved Fiorenza. Its so cute and romantic sounding, plus the meaning is precious. :)
