Does anybody know the reason why behind the change in Splinter Cell Conviction?

I was playing Splinter Cell Conviction at my friend's house because I don't own a 360 but I had Game Informer sent to me and I read the article about it. From playing the game I realized there was no chair throwing, table throwing, free roam, anything like that like what Game Informer said. If you know why please tell me. If you have info that this would be leading to another SC that'd be cool. Thanks
