English movie - easily 1960/70s movie. Not sure if British.
This is a story about a teenage girl struggling for an identity and recognition as a 'young woman/lady' from everyone - including her father and her 'dream/love'. Her widowed father always treats her (along with probably 5 to 6 other kids of his - she is the eldest of them all) as a little kid. So she desperately tries her hand and the disasters that follow- are hillarious. She has quite a few siblings. The man she has crush on is probably 27 - the age difference is highlighted. He is preparing for a dance competition with another lady. Our heroine watches them, and learns the steps out of interest. Her father tries to cope with the fact that his daughter is growing up and to show his affection, buys her a lingerie - to wear with 'cocktail dress of olden days. Only he does not realize the one he got was for people with a back/spinal problem. So it would be so stiff, that the girl wont be able to move a muscle - and hence some comedy spins around.
Finally, she ends up dancing with him - and everybody realize that she has indeed become a 'young lady'.
I know the story described as above may feel so dry and lifeless. But the circumstances and the disasters of the girls efforts make it truly hillarious.
It would really mean a lot to me if anyone can provide any kind of suggestions. I know its not much to go on. I remember seeing this kid with my sister when i was a real small kid. I dont remember the name of the movie. But my sister and I had a very happy evening together, rolling with laughter for this movie. I am meeting her after easily 10 years. I would love to surprise her by getting her to watch it with me again - and relive some childhood fun. So if anyone can shed some light/ideas.... any suggestion at all is truly appreciated
