I'm not a huge Dragonball Z fan but when I was younger I did enjoy the episodes where Goku was really sick. I don't remeber much about the episodes except that he was sick/hurt through like what seemed to be a whole season. I know he was at risk of dying even. One thought that come to mind when trying to recall is that something may have been wrong with his heart or something.
I think it was when Cell was around and that his son Gohan had to take over for him or somthing.
