Does another company need to step up to the plate?

Yes, focusing on just American programming would help the USAnimation industry, but what I meant to say is that there should be more TV venues in the USA that are willing to air a real variety of youth/family-oriented programming, including both domestic and foreign animation.



I do want USAnimation to get the recognition it deserves, but there should be some good homes for foreign stuff in the USA as well and I have to agree with what HG Revolution said here.

I disagree with you about Disney, because they're focusing more on their own original LA series and third-party properties, including Hannah Montana and Power Rangers, and I don't see Disney crafting anymore original animated works these days, besides Phineas & Ferb and Playhouse Disney originals. IPs like Ratatouille, Yin Yang Yo! and Slacker Cats aren't true Disney originals, because they were all made by three companies Disney has acquired, as oppossed to original business entities that Disney makes purely from scratch.
 
What about The Replacements and Emperor's New School, which are still in production? Plus Meet the Robinson's and their future movies like Princess and the Frog.

Though, technically, isn't anything Pixar does from now on Disney considering they bought them out?
 
ABC Kids (and previous ABC blocks before that) used to be chock full of animation. It had some live-action shows as well but they were the minority for years. Then they started porting their Disney Channel originals to ABC Kids and soon after that they decided they didn't need to have that focus on cartoons for Saturday mornings. Disney Channel was never focused on Cartoons but it had more in production previously than they do now.

But this is the saddest part. Disney has a network specifically for their cartoons and it has what... 2-3 original shows in production at a time at most and the rest are backstock or acquisitions.

Needless to say if you're looking for new cartoons from Disney, don't expect much but one could argue quality of quantity I suppose...

And actually THIS venue I have in mind probably wouldn't be focused on original productions but there's a lot of content out there world wide as well as domestic that deserves a good home and at the moment it doesn't look like CN, Nick or Disney will pick up many in the coming years. There's nothing really wrong with that as long as they put good effort into their original productions but those shows still deserve a shot. That is the point of this channel. Original content would only be the icing on the cake. Afterall, most networks today are built on reruns they acquired from another company and only use original content to add more interest.
 
I meant brand-new original TV cartoons from Disney, besides Phineas & Ferb and the Playhouse Disney originals!



I know Meet the Robinsons is currently being released on both DVD and Blu-ray, but don't expect it to stay in the limelight that much longer, because it never made quite the box office revenue the Pixar films made.

As for the upcoming Princess & The Frog flick, I don't have that much faith in its ability to save Disney's original theatrical animation department from certain death, but hopefully it'll surprise me with superb quality and a good story.



Didn't you read my previous post in this thread? Anything made by Pixar couldn't possibly be considered true Disney originals, because Pixar is a studio that Disney has acquired, as oppossed to being completely made from scratch by Disney, like WDFA was.

I also wish Pixar never had chosen to be fully absorbed by Disney at all, like so many companies before them, so they could've provided the mouse house with some good competition, which would've actually pressured Disney into making more improvements to their original animated film division in order to fight off the competition.

So, next year they have 1 planned animated show and 1 planned live-action show. Overall, since 2002, they've made 9 cartoons and 7 live-action series including next year's stuff.
 
Well, there's always reruns. Plus there's also Playhouse Disney which takes up 6:00AM to 12:00 Noon. They also air older stuff like Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear, and Timon and Pumbaa. They also tend to air a movie every day.
