Does an 89 Mazda 626 AC use Freon or 134a?

No cars use freon anymore; Go to Auto Zone,and they will show you what you need, and how to put it in. If you are blowing only hot air, it will probably take about 3 cans of refrigerant.

R12 was almost universal until the mid-90s; unless this car was previously converted manually, it's almost certainly expecting R12.
