Does America have an awful case of amnesia?

Are we willfully ignorant or just plain stupid?

President Obama inherited an economic crash that began during eight years of George Bush, six of which were dominated by a Republican Congress. During that time, many of our jobs went overseas, there was a housing bubble that burst, gasoline prices went over $4 a gallon and Bush began the economic bailout. Of course, the jobs situation and economy haven’t improved fast enough. But what intelligent person expected a mess nearly a decade in the making to be fixed in the 24 months Obama has been in office? During midterm we heard “let’s get government out of the way” from the Republicans. Isn’t that what we did for eight years with the Bush administration and didn’t that lead to the mess we have now?
Didn’t the Republicans cry about regulations and how they impeded progress? So we had less regulation and the banks ran wild and caused the economy to crash. We still haven’t come out of it-so, the solution was to throw the Democrats out and put Republicans back in. What does it take for these people to remember? The reason unemployment is still too high is that companies are trying to get by with fewer workers to save money and pay greater dividends to shareholders. Then they can just blame Obama for why they’re not hiring. Look it up, companies are posting huge profits! Even in this “down economy”…go figure. President Obama can’t hire anyone. He can introduce incentives to hire, which he has done. People are blaming the president instead of the companies…is it ignorance or stupidity?
Had President Obama not helped out General Motors it would have gone bankrupt and thousands more jobs would have been lost. GM is now solvent and paying back its loans, just as the banks have.

Then there is the health care bill. Government takeover of health care, they say…I guess there is something wrong with a bill that allows older children to stay on one’s insurance policy, prevents one from losing their insurance if they become grievously ill, eliminates the “doughnut” hole in Medicare, prevents the denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions, and tries to make it so every family can have health insurance. Who needs that, right?!

The president has drawn down the troops in Iraq and is trying to do so in Afghanistan. The same people who rail against gov’t spending, debt, and deficit happily wrote a blank check to the Bush administration for this mess they’ve pass on to Obama to try and clean up. Russia is ready to cooperate and sign nuclear a weapons reduction agreement that would make America safer and the world is watching…Yet Republicans are blocking it? How patriotic is that? Do Americans realize what’s going on here or are we stupid?

Obama signed women’s rights legislation requiring equal pay. He put in place consumer protections for Americans against unscrupulous financial institutions. Credit card companies can no longer gouge people with interest rates and take advantage of college students. Who would complain about that besides those who would stand to benefit from it? Do Americans realize this or are we stupid?

Is it not hypocrisy/contradictory to rail against the debt that will be passed on to our grandchildren and then move to extend tax cuts to the highest 2 percent of income earners? Tax cuts create jobs they say. Then where are the jobs supposedly created by the Bush tax cuts-they have had a decade to kick in. So where are those jobs? Do Republicans count on Americans having amnesia or do they think we are ignorant and stupid people who'll just rely on Fox News/Republican/talk radio talking points for the "facts"? Here's a fact: Obama has actually lowered taxes for 95% of Americans. Only 1 in 10 people even realizes it...There are a lotta folks who'll call you a liar if you told them this-Are they stupid or willfully ignorant?
