Does ABC Even Care About Saturday Mornings?

It seems that every time I turn to ABC Kids, they show the exact SAME episodes of the shows they have. How come they didn't update, like say air episodes of Phineas & Ferb or the other new Disney Channel shows?

It seems like ABC's trying to make the lineup just...die.

Anybody notice this?

You still have ABC Kids where you live? The last time I watched ABC on a Saturday morning, it was taken over by football, golf, hockey, nascar or any number of other sports, depending on the season. The local affiliate only ran the block if whatever sport was on rain delay or, by some strange phenomenon - there wasn't a game that day. O.o

I still think Fox has a small interest in cartoons, and it is possible they might return someday (unlikely, of course) As for your question: except for E/I, no.

No, they don't really care. They just air the block because their parent company Disney makes them, so they take the easy route and air old episodes of Disney animated series.

it Seems the CW is the only Network that cares about saturday morning cartoons anymore...Since fox Decided they were gonna take a break from saturday morning cartoons (I still have hope that they'll return someday!) i just hope this changes soom I mean Sat. Morning cartoons are Tradition man! a Traditon!

I can explain about this. What ABC has been doing is repurposing programs from it's cable channel (Disney Channel) and broadcasting them on their network. Amazingly due to the fact that FCC does not actually has real guidelines on what makes a program actually 'educational' under the Childrens Television Act, they just broadcast the programs with the translucent E/I logo. If ABC actually produces real educational programing with entertainment programs in the mix it would be too expensive.

Besides, since the Regan degulation era the broadcast networks true audience are one's aged 18-34.

In short, ABC rebroadcast programs from Disney channel because it's cheaper and since there are no real regulations on what determines a program really 'educational', they can label the repurposed programs E/I and get away with it.

I actually haven't watched the Saturday morning block on ABC in ages. I totally lost interest once they just aired Disney Channel shows, instead of getting other shows for their lineup. As it has already been mentioned, they only air Disney Channel shows because it's cheaper. If they did care about Saturday mornings, I would imagine that they would put more effort into developing a schedule. Of course, it probably works for them too not only because of how cheap it is, but also because they usually do pretty well in ratings.

People aren't watching, for one. The broadcast network Saturday morning lineup is going the way of the Edsel, and networks aren't about to sink money for new shows into a time slot that isn't getting viewers.

First, DuckTales and TaleSpin never aired on ABC. And second, what good would that do? Reruns of canceled cartoons wouldn't bring back ABC's Saturday morning audience (kids today wouldn't care about ABC airing those shows, 'cause they didn't grow up with them and therefore have no nostalgic fondness for them), and Disney, is not, repeat, not going to revive any of those shows.

If Disney has no interest in running these shows on their cable/satellite networks, they're sure not going to run them on ABC.

Cartoons on NBC, ABC and CBS have been dead for years, sometimes they will show something educational but as a whole there has not been any fun content on them for years.
